About Powerful Women
We are an inclusive group of women, we do not discriminate or
segregate. All women are welcomed to attend the events whether you are gay,
straight, bisexual, black, white, tan, old, young, red head, lopsided ears,
balanced on one foot ... in other words, everyone is welcome. This is not a clique, there are no "leaders", I merely
help facilitate events to create a space for great things to happen. My
goal with Powerful Women is to create a community where we all feel
comfortable, a place to find support in a safe and drama free setting,
build meaningful friendships, and also work together to help empower
other women through our Isabelle Outreach Projects. There is nothing in
this world we can not do and collectively we will change the world
around us. It starts right now, right here in Charleston, SC, and right
now with you and me.

When women
are connected, their compassion and wisdom can change our troubled world.
Together, we can transform fear to concern and understanding. Peace is the sum
of individual acts of courage and decisions as we choose how to respond in the
face of need"

Becoming A Powerful Woman
Each
month I will highlight one of the 20 traits that make
someone a Powerful Woman and steps towards embracing such habits.
Erasing the Lines
16.
Does not see dividing lines between people, instead sees opportunity
to learn and grow through our differences.
When I lived in Phoenix I surrounded myself with
people who were much like myself - artistic, gay, into healthy eating,
etc. I could count on about 4 fingers how many "straight" people I
considered to be a friend. Upon moving here I found the community
in which I was accustomed to in Phoenix was sparse in the southeast. Yet
my desire for a community to feel safe and comfortable within did not
cease to exist.
A few years ago I formed what I called a "tribe" - a
group of 7 women who I felt were incredibly powerful and connected. We
each came from different backgrounds, had different beliefs. Some were
married, some not. Some gay, some straight. Some in corporate jobs, some
who owned their own business. The one common thing we each shared was
the inability to see dividing lines between us, instead we came to know
each other as a kindred spirit, or sister.
When I started Powerful Women it was a way for me to
connect to other like minded women, again. Although this time the
motivation was and continues to be driven by my desire to connect to a
community who has a rich and beautiful diversity. A diversity that
allows us each to feel accepted and cherished for all those differences
which make us unique. It is in that contrast that we allow our
growth and learn the valuable gifts the world has to offer us.
